‘Door2Door Healthcare’ Free Medical Check-Up

300 People Including Elders and Foreign residents Benefited

   

 Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch hosted its ‘Door2Door Healthcare’ program in the cities of Daegu, Gumi and Pohang, from March-early April providing medical aid for 300 residents from marginalized backgrounds including foreigners and the elderly.

  The Daegu branch hosted the event on the 4th floor (cultural institute) of Daegu Homeplus Daemyung’s branch on the 3rd of April and volunteered for the wellbeing of foreign residents and the elderly.

     
 That day, 150 volunteers participated, with notable guests including Mr. Jaegu Joh (head of NamGu), Mrs. Youngae Yoon (Daegu councilor), Mr. Gongtae Sah (head of NamGu Volunteer Center) and 20 medical doctors, oriental doctors and nurses, 20 masseurs and 8 Sri-Lankan, Bangladeshi and Vietnamese interpreters.

 

 Medical staff examined cholesterol levels, cerebrovascular disease, and blood sugar and blood pressure levels for treatment and prescription. Meridian massage and aromatic acupressure were particularly popular to foreign residents and the elderly who do heavy labor.

 

 Moreover, there was ear and hand acupuncture, massage sticks, aromatherapy and hand-massage to aid medical treatment, as well as performances by a Korean string quartet and ‘Chang’ (traditional Korean ballad) with Gayageum (traditional Korean string instrument).

 

 Mr. Jaegu Joh (Head of NamGu) said, “We thank Shincheonji Volunteer Group - who were dressed in yellow attire - for always devoting themselves to society, regardless of one’s faith. I wish everyone present today a happy new year and hope you take everything you can from Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s ‘Door2Door Healthcare’ program.”

   

 Before the event, on the 2nd April, the Gumi branch established a strategic partnership with regional government departments to provide free medical check-ups through the ‘6th Door2Door Healthcare and Public MOU’ in the grand hall of Geungji building, Gumi university.

 

 On 28th March, the volunteer group’s Pohang branch hosted its ‘Door2Door Healthcare’ program providing free medical check-ups and dinner for local senior residents in Pohang Woori Jaega Wellbeing Center.

 

 Mr. Myeongsuk Choi, Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Daegu Gyeongbuk branch manager, said “I hope that the event has contributed to the improved wellbeing of elderly and foreign residents. We will continue to fulfil our role as the light and salt of society, and Shincheonji Church of Jesus will endeavor to share in and rejoice in the lives of local residents.”

   

 Meanwhile, Shincheonji Church of Jesus has been carrying out its ‘Door2Door Healthcare’ program for the last 8 years for foreign residents, children, youth and handicapped from marginalized backgrounds who rarely benefit from medical services in Korea. Moreover, the volunteer group has signed an MOU with local medical institutions to improve the quality of their treatments, and has added more medical services such as internal medicine, surgery, oriental medicine, a dental clinic, youth and child counseling and children’s body-straightening.
