Fackcheck on Shincheonji Church of Jesus Requiring Its Congregants to Divorce, Run Away from Home, and Give Up Their Studies

About Shincheonji Church of Jesus requiring its congregants to divorce, run away from home, and give up their studies

Shincheonji Church of Jesus noticed its congregants not to divorce, run away from home, and give up their studies due to religion through its written advices. (Delivering official statements to its all churches in Feb. and Apr. of 2005, Jan. of 2007, Oct. of 2014, and etc.)

Some congregants did in personal reasons, but it is impossible for churches to stop or ban it by force.

In regards to runaway or family trouble, families of Shincheonji members with conversion pastors conducted human rights abuse by actually imprisoning and assaulting Shincheonji believers under the reason of Shincheonji faith, and converted them coercively.

About this, the prosecution said in June of 2016, “A Shincheonji member voluntarily ran away from home under the situation of coercive conversion due to deepened religious conflict with family. Runaway from home and religious conflict with family were caused by coercive conversion.”

There are some extreme examples on religious conflicts being solved through coercive conversion with imprisonment and kidnapping, but absolute majority of Shincheonji congregation live in normal home.

First, we are sincerely sorry to all families with religious conflicts. Also, we want them to solve through conversation. The way to solve it is always open.

Regarding a suspicion on a slush fund creation of the construction of the temple of the Peter tribe

A representative of a construction firm who carried forward building the temple of the Peter tribe was a Shincheonji member, and other members voluntarily participate in the building service.

In the service, we confirmed that the representative registered some congregants he had known. However, Shincheonji Church has not interfered or involved it. Also, Shincheonji Church has not exploited congregants’ labor. So, it is not true that any slush fund creation was sent to a church or a official.

On confirmed case no. 19 in Gwangju who entered from Colombia

“A congregant residing a overseas country” was the reason why the confirmed case no. 19 in Gwangju who was estimated to got COVID-19 from other country was not included in the list of a complete enumeration survey of the Gwangju City. The General Assembly Headquarter of Shincheonji Church of Jesus provided the quarantine authorities to its congregation being in foreign countries, total 33,821, on 26 February. In case of the congregation, it was expected that they resided in other countries so the list of them were not sent to each local government.
