About withdrawing permission for the corporation of Shincheonji Church of Jesus

 

  The Seoul City decided to withdraw permission for the corporation, “Jesus Mission of New Heaven New Earth, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony,” and the reasons were 1) Shincheonji didn’t obey bylaws of a corporation, and 2) Shincheonji disturbed the quarantine of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

  The corporation withdrawn by the Seoul City is not Shincheonji Church of Jesus but a separate corporation for mission. The city said the corporation impaired public interest, but Shincheonji Church of Jesus has not harmed public interest and acted for religion through the corporation. Also, it has not taken a tax benefit.

 

  The Seoul City spoke Shincheonji Church of Jesus 1) provided with delay, falsely submitted and covered up a list on its congregants and current state of its facilities 2) ordered its members to disturb quarantine by providing false information and not taking the call 3) did evangelism when all citizens got COVID-19 outbreak. But these claims of the city is not true.

 

 

  Shincheonji Church of Jesus has not been provided with delay, falsely submitted and covered up the list on its congregants and current state of its facilities. It promptly provided all information according to the quarantine authorities and the authorities have supported this at several times. However, Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and a forensic team of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office conducted a administrative investigation for the General Assembly Headquarter of Shincheonji, and the result revealed there was no difference with the first data provided by Shincheonji.

 

  Shincheonji Church of Jesus has not been ordered its congregants to provide fake information or not to get the call, and until now, noticed Chairman’s instructions and official statements to cooperate according to the policy of the government over 20 times.

 

  The Shincheonji’s documents presented by the Seoul City to support its claim, “Shincheonji did evangelism when all citizens got COVID-19 outbreak,” was in 2018 and late January and early February of 2020. In these period, the quarantine authorities did not restrain religious activities and allowed the people to have normal lives. The Seoul’s claim was publicly opposed to the policy of the quaratine authorities, and broke the trust about the policy of the Korean government.

 

  Shincheonji Church of Jesus has tried to prevent COVID-19 by noticing visitors and contacts on China and those with fever or cough not to enter the churches on four occasions from 29 January (28 January, 31 January, 1 February, 7 February). Also, since confirmed case no. 31 (18 February), all worship services, gatherings, evangelical activities have been stopped.

 

  The Shincheonji’s evangelical activies the Seoul city criticized are separate from COVID-19. Shincheonji Church of Jesus have stringently taken criticism like this. But, now is the time when the government, medical workers, public servants, volunteers and all citizens cooperate to contain COVID-19. All orders of priority are based on quarantine and all people change their lives. In this situation, the revocation for the corporation, “New Heaven New Earth,” should be objectively considered on how the withdrawing helps in views of quarantine. We must concentrate on quarantine now, not politics.

 

  The Shincheonji’s congregants confirmed of COVID-19 in Seoul were 3 people at present (as of 27 March). Shincheonji has conducted COVID-19 screening and social distancing among our congregation not to occur an additional patient. Shincheonji will promise to cooperate with the quarantine authorities for all citizens’ safety and lives with full responsibility until the COVID-19 outbreak is contained.
