[Bible Books Summary] Overview of Exodus

[Bible Books Summary] Overview of Exodus

The Bible is a Christian scripture that is believed by about 2.4 billion people (33%) out of 7.3 billion people, and has been distributed to about 6 billion people, 80 percent of humanity. It is best-selling book but is considered one of the least readable. So I post to answer questions about the Bible as a whole. I’m going to run a series of 66 books of the Bible:)

Who wrote Exodus?

This chapter is the Exodus, in which God escapes the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt through Moses. This event is the fulfillment of the prophecy that God promised Abraham(Genesis 15:13-16).

Furthermore, It was the Exodus that due to the sin of Noah's son, Ham, Cannan, the descendant of Ham, was the first to be judged(according to promises) by the descendants of Sam(Genesis 10:25~27). All these promises would mark the end of the prophecy of Joshua's coming to Canaan after Moses' death. The representative events include the Passover(Exodus 12) and the Red Sea, which split into parts, and the people escaped from Egypt(Exodus 14), the covenant with God(Exodus 19 and 24), the Ten Commandments(Exodus 20), and the idol worship to the golden calf(Exodus 32).

Main Figures and Events of Exodus

Moses was named because Pharaoh's daughter had taken him out of the water(Exod. 2:10). After growing up as a prince of Egypt, he fled to Midian in an incident in which he struck and killed Egyptians. At the age of eighty, he was called by God, and went back to Egypt and had the people of Israel escape from Egypt. Aaron was Moses' brother and fellow worker sent by God(Exod. 4:10-17). However, he committed the sin of making a golden calf(an idol) to have the people serve while Moses went up to the mountain after the Exodus(Exod. 32). Baro is the title of the king of Egypt. Moses and Aaron asked him for releasing the people, but he did not, and only after ten disasters did he release the Israelites. Jethro was Moses' father-in-law, the priest of Midian. After the Exodus, he watched Moses alone all day and gave him wisdom so had him become a judge in charge (Exod. 18).

Genesis 15:13~16 Then the LORD said to him, 'Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions. You, however, will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age. In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.'
Genesis 10:25~27 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
Exodus 2:10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, "I drew him out of the water."
Exodus 4:10~17 Moses said to the LORD, 'O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.' The LORD said to him, 'Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.' But Moses said, 'O Lord, please send someone else to do it.' Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses and he said, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and his heart will be glad when he sees you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform miraculous signs with it.'
